Saw this article this morning, "DOJ to investigate officials who obstruct Trump's immigration enforcement, memo says", which describes the "new legal" DOJ thinking with respect to sanctuary cities and states, put out by the acting AG. As I read this it should start legal action against every governor, mayor, state legislator and city council member that voted for sanctuary status for their jurisdiction. This measure is four years overdue. The concept of sanctuary as it was used in this case is blatantly illegal and was only "allowed" by the Biden administration leading the way in breaking the law with respect to border security. As bad as that is it was worse that the republicans largely sat by and let it happen. It's hard for me to believe that nothing could have been done to challenge this in four years when all it took is for Trump to get elected, it didn't even require his AG to be confirmed to make it happen.
