Wishing Senator McConnell well
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell tripped and fell while attending a dinner last night at a DC hotel, and he was hospitalized for treatment. At this writing, there aren’t many other details, and it’s not known how long he’ll be there. As this report notes, he had polio as a child, and he fell and broke his collarbone in 2019.

Along with John Fetterman and Dianne Feinstein, this makes McConnell the third Senator to be hospitalized since this Congressional term began. I’m sure you’ll join me in wishing them all a full and complete recovery.
House Republicans begin their investigations
A lot of people predicted that nothing would come of the House Republicans’ promise to launch investigations of the many lies, scandals and cover-ups of the past two years. But the Democrats abused their monopoly on power so badly, told so many lies and silenced so many dissenters, that now that the hearings have started and the Republicans are pounding away, the truth is suddenly falling out all over the place, like candy from a pinata woven out of lies.
I have so many stories today about evidence and witness testimony refuting that we’ve been spoon-fed on so many issues that I can’t even get into the details on all of them. I’m just going to give you a brief recap of some of the major news and point you to more details so you can get up to date when you have time. You can also find the latest news on the SEC targeting of Elon Musk and the January 6th video shattering the Kangaroo Kommittee’s narratives elsewhere in today’s newsletter. But here are a few other revelations that have come pouring out just so far this week...
One issue that the Biden White House and its media stenographers would love for you to forget (or buy their bogus line that the outcome was inevitable and would have happened to any President) is the tragically botched pullout from Afghanistan. We cannot allow them to get away with sweeping under the rug the needless deaths of our military heroes and Afghan citizens, and the abandonment of our allies and military equipment to the Taliban. Fortunately, the House Foreign Affairs Committee is finally turning the spotlight on one of the darkest moments of our history.
Active-duty service members and veterans who were actually there are sharing their harrowing experiences on the record. And while the blame for mistakes in Afghanistan touches every President since George W. Bush, the most blatant and deadly mistake was Biden’s botched withdrawal that turned into a rout. One witness, Sgt. Tyler Vargas-Andrews, called it “a catastrophe” caused by “an inexcusable lack of accountability and negligence.”
https://www.westernjournal.com/marine-afghanistan-withdrawal-arrives-dc-shows-happened-bidens-watch/
Another warned that “America is building a nasty reputation for multi-generational systemic abandonment of our allies where we leave a smoldering human refuge from the mountain yards of Vietnam to the Kurds in Syria,” and he said veterans know that “We might be done with Afghanistan, but it’s not done with us.” You can read more at this link about what happened in those last days, both to our service members and the Afghan people, but I warn you, it’s gut-wrenching.
And now, brace yourself for the most maddening revelation: Vargas-Andrews testified that commanders were tracking a potential ISIS suicide bomber, but when he asked why they didn’t arrest him, he was told “the asset could not be compromised.” Later, he spotted the suspected bomber, got a sniper ready and asked permission to take him out. But they were told not to shoot because “leadership did not have the engagement authority for us.”
Vargas-Andrews showed his commander the photos and evidence that that was the bombing suspect and asked if they could shoot, but “Our battalion commander said, and I quote: ‘I don’t know.'” The sergeant snapped, ”Well, who does? Because this is your responsibility, sir.'” The commander said he would find out and get back to him, but he never did, and the suspect disappeared into the crowd. Vargas-Andrews still believes that was the terrorist who later set off the bomb, killing 13 US Marines and over 160 Afghans, and injuring many others, including him. He lost an arm and a leg in the blast.
That story needs to be told, and told, and told again, to ensure it is NEVER repeated.
Meanwhile, over at the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic, we got even more confirmation of what we already suspected and have recently started to confirm: That it’s likely COVID-19 came from the Wuhan virology lab, but that when highly-credentialed experts tried to raise that possibility, the government and the media shut down legitimate scientific inquiry, painted them as quack conspiracy theorists and even anti-Chinese racists, censored their speech and threatened their licenses. Multiple witnesses testified that the lab leak hypothesis was NOT a “conspiracy theory.”
Among those testifying was former CDC Director Dr. Robert Redfield. He was asked, “In your expert opinion was the Wuhan Institute conducting gain-of-function research on a batch of coronaviruses?” He replied, “Absolutely.” When asked, “Is it likely that American tax dollars funded the gain-of-function research that created this virus,” he said, “I think it did, not only from NIH, but from the State Department, USAID and DOD.”
Hey, the Democrats and the media (but I repeat myself) told us we had to believe what we were told by CDC officials. Redfield is the former Director of the CDC. Why should he be an exception?
Considering that Dr. Fauci controlled the NIH budget and testified under oath to Congress that there was no gain of function research, I’d say he has a lot to answer for, and I don’t just mean questions.

Finally, today, journalists Matt Taibbi and Michael Shelllenberger will testify to the House Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of Government, about their work on the TwitterFiles, exposing government collusion to silence people on social media. I’m sure we’ll have more about that tomorrow, but Taibbi released his prepared comments in advance. You can read them here at his Substack page, the site that many people (including me) are joining because we got sick of other platforms trying to censor and silence us.
In case you missed it: New book showcases stringed instrument collection of Mike Huckabee
It is said that former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee is a different kind of politician, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that he’s assembled a different kind of collection of basses and guitars.
The governor’s zeal for guitars and basses began—as was the case for an untold number of other youngsters—when he saw the Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1964. Almost three years later, at the age of 11, Mike’s Christmas present in 1966 was a Penncrest model 1580 electric guitar and amplifier, purchased from a J.C. Penney catalog.
And that exact instrument is one of the guitars and basses displayed and chronicled in the “Personal Time (Warp) Machines” chapter of BASSES AND GUITARS: The Huckabee Collection.
So why did Huckabee opt to participate in a photo-centric book project about his instruments?
“It had been suggested to me by more than one person,” the governor said, “and I loved the idea, because the collection is eclectic, with lots of stories behind the guitars.”
The book’s author is Willie G. Moseley, Senior Writer for Vintage Guitar Magazine. Willie has been writing for VG since 1989, and BASSES AND GUITARS: The Huckabee Collection Is his fifteenth book.
“I always appreciate it when guitar articles I’m researching happen to reveal intriguing ‘people stories’ that can be interpolated,” said Moseley, “and working with the governor on this book meant that I got to interview numerous luthiers who had built basses that are part of his collection. The governor also told me some great stories about why he was inspired to collect certain instruments.”
“I’ve known of Willie for years, from his many books and his work in Vintage Guitar Magazine,” said Huckabee. “I knew he would be the perfect author.”
BASSES AND GUITARS: The Huckabee Collection isn’t a high-end “coffee table book.” Its egalitarian presentation is no-frills, but the full-color images of Mike’s instruments are accompanied by detailed chronologies and information.
“The focus is on the instruments and the stories behind them, and not on the ‘box’ the stories come in,” the governor explained.
Chapters in the book include instruments (“plain” and autographed) that have been presented to Huckabee, Beatles-oriented instruments, and utility guitars and basses. A separate chapter profiles the three workhorse basses used on his weekly television show on the Trinity Broadcasting Network.
“In my opinion, the governor’s TBN show has a type of infotainment format that works,” said Moseley, “and that influenced the approach to the book—keep it accurate, and present the images and information in a straight-on and enjoyable format.”
Legendary guitarist James Burton wrote the foreword for BASSES AND GUITARS: The Huckabee Collection. Among the other participants who discuss the guitars they’ve played on the Huckabee TV are Doyle Dykes, Mark Farner, Steve Wariner, Vince Martell, Greg Martin, Doug Phelps and Richard Young.
Huckabee was asked if he had any favorite “people stories” in the book.
“Great music stories are really ‘people stories’,” he opined. “One story I love to tell is about getting a letter from Peter Cetera after he saw me play on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and he had the Pat Wilkins bass made for me. The bass is special, but so is the story!”
While the Wilkins bass is a custom-made instrument that he uses on this TV show, Gov. Huckabee is also proud to note that his cheap 1966 Penncrest guitar—which he reacquired in the late ‘90s after some 30 years—is also displayed in full color in his collection book.
“It’s the one that started it all,” he said.

Chuck Schumer: The lowest of the low
By Mike Huckabee
Having been in politics longer than Ariana Grande has been alive, I have seen more than my share of blatant opportunists and unrepentant, bald-faced liars. But I have to admit, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer’s speech in the Senate yesterday might have set a new benchmark for the lowest I’ve ever personally witnessed.
Schumer looked Americans in the eye (or down his nose, as usual), and read into the Congressional Record a demand that a news outlet with First Amendment protection (Fox News) be censored because one of its reporters was showing unaltered video proving that Schumer and his cohorts have been lying to us all for two years, and that their lies have resulted in the prosecution and imprisonment of American citizens who are more than likely innocent. Schumer actually expects us to believe that by letting the American people see the full evidence from the surveillance cameras on January 6th instead of the cherry-picked, edited and altered excerpts that the Democrats and their partisan allies wanted us to see, Speaker McCarthy “enabled the big lie and has further eroded away at our precious democracy.” McCarthy has responded to that:
As I’ve written before, it’s now apparent that the real “Big Lie” of the 2020 election was that Joe Biden was a bipartisan, moderate centrist. Schumer, however, would have us believe that allowing Americans to see all the evidence and decide for themselves is an assault on “our precious democracy.” Funny, I thought that was the foundation of our jury system.
Schumer’s speech was so slimy, dishonest, self-serving, reprehensible, un-American and obviously panic-driven at the thought of his carefully-constructed tower of lies being toppled that I considered making a video myself to respond to it. But then I realized, the great Johnny Cash had already done it for me. He did it in this video:
Johnny’s words are worth quoting directly to Sen. Schumer:
“Well, you may throw your rock and hide your hand
Workin' in the dark against your fellow man.
But as sure as God made black and white,
What's done in the dark will be brought to the light.
You can run on for a long time,
Run on for a long time,
Run on for a long time,
Sooner or later God'll cut you down.
Sooner or later God'll cut you down.
Go tell that long tongue liar,
Go and tell that midnight rider,
Tell the rambler, the gambler, the back biter,
Tell 'em that God's gonna cut you down…”
