A Final Salute
We don’t usually praise Democrats in this newsletter, but only because today’s party gives us so little reason to do so. But we have praised Sens. Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema before, and they are due for a final salute before they both leave the Senate next month, driven out by their own party’s lurch to the intolerant far-left and its mindless lust for power.
During the first two years of Biden’s term, when Democrats held both Congress and the White House and could have inflicted even more damage on America than they actually did, the only thing acting as a brake on their worst impulses (such as killing the filibuster and stacking the Supreme Court) was Manchin and Sinema refusing to go along. They kept reminding Chuck Schumer that when you blow up the norms and destroy minority rights, you won’t like it when you’re back in the minority.
Schumer apparently couldn’t imagine a scenario in which the Dems would ever be in the minority again. But you’ll notice that now that he’s facing it, he’s done a 180 and is preaching to the Republicans about the importance of bipartisanship and not making the kind of radical changes that he would imposed on them in a heartbeat if he’d had the power (NOTE: This is why they must never be voted back into power again.)
Well, it’s time to offer one more round of thanks to Manchin and Sinema, for putting the kibosh on one of many last-minute Democrat power grabs before Trump and the Republicans take over. Manchin and Sinema voted with the Republicans to block a move to reappoint Lauren McFerren to the National Labor Relations Board for a five-year term. That would’ve ensured that Big Labor Democrats controlled the NLRB throughout Trump’s entire term, preventing him from enacting any reforms that the majority of Americans want.
Of course, Chuck Schumer denounced the vote as “a direct attack on working people.” But if the Democrats’ policies and the past four years of Biden hadn’t been a daily direct assault on working people, then he wouldn’t have had to worry about Manchin and Sinema’s opposition or Trump coming back into office.
Great observation
Great Observation! The Libs of TikTok X account had this comment on Rep. Nancy Mace being assaulted by a pro-transgender activist: “There are now more Representatives who were injured in assaults on the Capitol grounds by pro-LGBTQ activists than by January 6th protesters.”
But for some reason, guess who’s considered to be the violent threat to democracy?
Reason #10,327 To Avoid Google:
Google’s idea of a Christmas ad for their search engine is a very effeminate, cross-dressing man searching for skin care products. The people at Google should try Googling “Bud Light.”
https://notthebee.com/article/google-just-dropped-this-christmas-ad
It looks as if the Democratic Party has left another Democrat:
A Florida state lawmaker who was reelected last month as a Democrat on a platform of representing working people just announced that she’s changing parties and becoming a Republican.

Have you heard about this story?
We hear a lot of complaints about “white girl syndrome,” that news channels only cover news stories about assaults or disappearances of white girls and ignore crimes against black people. If liberal outlets are so upset about that, then why are we hearing so little about 7-year-old Ivory Smith of Houston, Texas?
Ivory was a beautiful little girl with a big smile who loved to sing and dance. She was described as the light of her family. But she was killed when the family car was struck by an illegal alien from Venezuela who was driving drunk. He’d had two ICE detainers on him, one for assaulting a family member, but they were dropped and the assault charge was reduced from a felony to a misdemeanor. He was sentenced to 113 days in jail, immediately released for time served, and two-and-a-half months later, Ivory Smith was killed.
Let’s all pray for Ivory’s family; for there to be no more such tragedies, despite the worst efforts of this Administration; and for January 20th and the return of law and order to hurry up and arrive.
“The most useless people in America”
We’re tired of talking about the election, which is starting to seem like a distant memory as Trump revs up his transition, but we do want to take just a moment to ponder how in the world a collection of incompetent, lying Trump haters could bilk so many donors into giving them so much money, then spend so much of it so selfishly and pointlessly that they not only ended up losing but also deep in debt.
And no, we’re not talking about Kamala’s campaign. We’re talking about the anti-Trump fake Republicans, grifters and groomers in the slanderously-named “Lincoln Project,” aptly dubbed by Esquire magazine as “the most useless people in America.”
Have they no shame?
Leftists across America are continuing to demonstrate their kindness, tolerance and compassion by celebrating the cold-blooded murder of United Healthcare executive Brian Thompson and fan-girling over his alleged killer as if he were a K-Pop star.
Now, they’ve also started putting up fake “wanted posters,” showing other corporate CEOs with their personal information, in an attempt to encourage other unstable people to attack or murder them, too.
Oh, and look: we already have our first copycat criminal: A Florida woman arrested for allegedly emulating the words of Thompson’s killer to threaten Blue Shield for denying her insurance claim.
You might remember how Democrats dismissed suggestions that their hyperbolic hate rhetoric about Trump might have inspired the TWO assassination attempts on him. But in only a few months, the left has gone from denying they were encouraging murder of people they disagree with to openly cheering for it. Their long downward moral spiral has now become a fast swirl down the moral toilet.
And no surprise, their leaders are leading the way using one of the left’s favorite tactics: situational ethics. In this case, we have both AOC and Sen. Elizabeth Warren piously telling us that, of course, violence is always wrong…BUT…people can only be pushed so far (the situation in which we’re supposed to sympathize with the homicidal impulses.) Whenever you hear a leftist make a strong moral statement followed by the word “but…” you know some buttheaded contradiction is coming.
After saying this on two different media outlets and meeting furious blowback, Warren at least tried to reel it back in, issuing this “clarification”:
“Violence is never the answer. Period. I should have been much clearer that there is never a justification for murder.”
Yes, we’d say that’s the least she should have done. We might remind her, AOC and the rest that before they start trying to justify murder of insurance company CEOs because they sometime turn down claims (and we’re sympathetic to that complaint), they should ask themselves this question: “Who’s caused more financial hardship for working Americans over the past few years, insurance companies or Democrats?”
Warren alone wiped out countless small investors’ retirement accounts by killing the Spirit Airlines merger, which forced Spirit into bankruptcy. She’s yet to apologize for her part in that. Would she tell the people she harmed, “Violence is never the answer…but you can only be pushed so far by meddling politicians who destroy you financially”?
No, because “violence is never the answer, PERIOD.” See, how hard was it to get that right the first time?
RELATED: Another liberal narrative bites the dust, as it appears that the shooter was not on a righteous revenge mission after being shafted by a big insurance company. The New York Times reports that he was never even a client of United Healthcare, so they never turned down an insurance claim from him. Apparently, he allegedly targeted Thompson just because he was the CEO of a big insurance company. That adds an extra layer of “indefensible” to his actions.
Rising healthcare costs
Speaking of complaints about insurance and Democrats who claim to be so concerned about this problem prompts the obvious question: “Wasn’t Obamacare supposed to fix all that?” After all, every time a Republican talks about altering or replacing Obamacare, they go hysterical about how it will take away all that affordable health insurance that’s now being provided for all Americans.
Yeah, about that…Steven Hayward of the Powerline blog offers some charts showing that hospital costs have increased more than any other segment of the economy (even more than college tuition!), and Obamacare has had no impact on that. And while the left is always pining for European-style government healthcare, Americans actually pay less out of pocket than in most European nations. And some citizens of those nations, like the UK, are not happy with the quality of the healthcare they’re getting from the government.
https://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2024/12/the-daily-chart-the-failure-of-obamacare.php
He also makes a good argument that the skyrocketing cost of healthcare in the US isn’t due to not enough government involvement but is actually caused by rising government involvement and excessive regulation. This is a good article, and a much better use of your time than stalking insurance executives.
And of course, it’s always worth checking out the Babylon Bee…
99
A belated Happy 99th birthday to Dick Van Dyke! Comedy writer Mark Evanier was at his birthday dinner in 2013 that was also attended by the late Rose Marie, and he has a great write-up of what a couple of fans said to Dick when they recognized him in the parking lot. They spoke for just about everyone. It’s nice to know that in these hyper-partisan times, there are still a few things everyone can agree on, like we all love Dick Van Dyke.

Pelosi injured
It was reported that Rep. Nancy Pelosi was injured while on a trip to Luxembourg for Battle of the Bulge commemorations and taken to a hospital. At this writing, there aren't many details, but this link should be updated with more. In the meantime, I hope you'll join us in saying a prayer for her safety, because decent human beings do not wish harm on their political opponents.
