Alabama shooting
Saturday night, there was a mass shooting in a popular entertainment district in Birmingham, Alabama. Four people are dead and 17 were injured, with four battling life-threatening injuries. I hope you will join me in praying for them and their families and for the police to identify the shooters. At this writing, no arrests have been made. There will be a police press conference this morning. This is a breaking story, so watch the news for updates.

Finally, Tim Walz tells the truth, and I agree with him 100%! Apparently forgetting who has been in power for the past 3-1/2 years, Walz declared to a rally crowd, “We can’t afford four more years of this!”

I have a feeling many of them will someday go down to a place with a lot of flames, along with all the Trump-hating celebrity virtue-signalers who knew about or facilitated Harvey Weinstein’s crimes and never said a word about them, and those who gave a standing ovation at the Oscars to Roman Polanski.

64 very long days
Today marks 64 days since Kamala Harris was anointed as the Democrat nominee for President, and she’s yet to hold a formal press conference, only a few puffball interviews like the Oprah show that was practically a Kamala telethon and the ABC debate that featured her plus the moderators against Trump.
But even these limited and extremely easy appearances have given voters a clue that she mouths a lot of words but never actually says anything. In a time of serious issues like inflation, war, crime and illegal immigration, vague promises about “hopes and dreams” with no specifics just don’t cut it, and her poll numbers are sliding, as they well should. So it’s no surprise that her campaign announced that she’s willing to do another debate with Trump…on CNN.

But Trump put the kibosh on that, saying he’s already done two debates, against Biden and Harris (I’d add, both on hostile, anti-Trump outlets: CNN and ABC.) He said it’s too late for another debate, since (thanks to Democrats stretching out Election Day to eternity), mail-in ballots are already being sent out. He also pointed out that he challenged Harris to a debate in early September on Fox News, and she refused, since she won’t appear on any outlet that doesn’t guarantee her kid glove treatment.
I don’t think we’re missing much, since these shows aren’t real debates anyway. If we’re going to have debates, then get rid of the so-called “moderators” and just let the candidates ask each other questions and have a real argument about their plans and philosophies.
While I do believe that the more people see of Kamala, the less they like her, I can understand why Trump has had enough of appearing on these leftwing outlets. Why are Republicans always expected to debate in hostile territory while Democrats never agree to appear on an outlet like Fox, where they wouldn’t be ambushed, they’d just face tough questioning from real journalists? Never mind, I think I just answered my own question.
PS – Maybe Trump just doesn’t want to debate someone who apparently doesn’t even know who he is…

Kamala cancels on the Al Smith Dinner
Every year, the Al Smith Dinner is held to raise money for Catholic charities that help children in New York City. It’s a longstanding tradition that in election years, the Presidential candidates both attend and give humorous speeches. But not this year. Surprise: Kamala Harris has canceled. She claims she’s busy (doing WHAT? Oh, a "campaign event.")
Translation: There will be a lot of reporters there and they might ask her questions. Instead, she’ll be off someplace where she can safely dispense her word salads off a teleprompter.
It’s not yet confirmed whether Trump will appear, but as recently as last week, it was announced that both Trump and Harris would participate. The fact that the emcee will be comic Jim Gaffigan, who has made no secret of his disdain for Trump, didn’t seem to scare Trump away.
A weekend of battling presidential endorsements
It was a weekend of battling presidential endorsements, and I think most people can agree that Donald Trump came out ahead.
In a move that could cost Kamala Harrris the state of Michigan, which has a large Muslim population, Amer Galib, the Yemen-born mayor of the Muslim-majority Detroit suburb of Hamtramck, announced that he is endorsing Trump. After a long meeting with Trump, Mayor Galib posted on Facebook that he and Trump didn’t "agree on everything," but he is "a man of principles,” and “I believe he is the right choice for this critical time.”
Trump told Breitbart News that Galib was a fan of his Administration “because he saw no wars — outside of defeating ISIS, but I inherited that…There was no October 7. There was no Russian attack on Ukraine. He sees that and he told me — he saw a world that was at peace. Now, we have a world that’s going to end up in World War 3 and I can stop that.”
While you might think from media coverage that Muslim discontent with Democrats stems solely from Biden and Harris’ weather-vane support of Israel in Gaza, there’s long been a growing rift. American Muslims who hold conservative religious values have seen the party taken over by far-left radicals pushing ideas like drag queens and gay porn in elementary schools and “transing” minors without parental consent, and they’re just as offended as Christians and Orthodox Jews are.
Also, lest you think this endorsement means that Trump will not stand behind Israel, here’s a lifelong Democrat Jewish voter from Pennsylvania who is supporting Trump. He explains, “If you’re a Jew, if you’re pro-Israel, there’s only one candidate here.”
And in case you missed it, earlier this month, Trump won the endorsement of the National Fraternal Order of Police.
And what endorsements did Kamala Harris pick up to offset losing Muslims, Jews, the police and the Teamsters union (who chose not to endorse anyone after their members voiced 60% support for Trump)? How about the official union of IRS agents? Huzzah!

An IRS union spokesman said, “She supports the issues that matter most to our members.” No kidding!
It’s hardly a surprise, since 97% of 2022 donations from IRS union members went to Democrats. Kamala also cast the tie-breaking vote for the laughably-named “Inflation Reduction Act” that funded the hiring of over 80,000 new IRS agents. They were supposed to go after “the rich,” but one of their major operations so far has been cracking down on service workers to report their tip income. You know, that tax she copied Trump on and said she’d do away with.
If that endorsement doesn’t convince you, how about this: 700 “former national security and military officials” have endorsed Harris. Or to put it another way, a lot of Deep State elites from the same alphabet agencies that are trying to crush our freedoms of speech and assembly. And yes, as Bob Hoge at Redstate.com notes, nine of them also signed that letter in 2020 lying about Hunter Biden’s laptop likely being Russian disinformation. They include such notorious names as James Clapper, Leon Panetta and John Brennan. As Hoge puts it, this isn’t a list of respected intelligence officials, it’s a rogue’s gallery.
Gang violence at home and abroad
Last week, the State Department issued a “Level 4: Do Not Travel” warning for Haiti. It’s too dangerous for Americans to visit due to violent crime and gang activity. But don’t worry, everything’s just peachy in Springfield, Ohio!

The New York Post reports that the notorious Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua is moving into poor black neighborhoods in Chicago, taking over apartment buildings and homeless shelters and trying to encroach on local black gangs’ drug business. One former gang member and murderer who’s gone straight and started a street patrol and violence prevention program warns that struggling black residents are furious at seeing these illegal alien criminals showered with government money. They’re even losing their apartments because landlords can get more money from the government by renting to illegal aliens.
The activist warned, “When the black gangs here get fed up with the illegalities and criminal activities of these migrants or non-citizens, the city of Chicago is going to go up in flames and there will be nothing the National Guard or the government can do about it when the bloodshed hits the streets. It’ll be blacks against migrants.”
I expect the media to respond by citing one shelter that claimed “there hadn’t been any crime in the shelter and denied the presence of Venezuelan gang members.” But another activist found there were 720 police incident reports logged at that one shelter over the past 12 months.

Julie Kelly on how “special counsel” Jack Smith is continuing to press his J6 charges against Donald Trump despite the recent SCOTUS immunity decision gutting his already shaky case. As Kelly reports, Smith is planning an unprecedented move to dump a 180-page motion (the limit is normally 45 pages) full of accusations into the public record. This would normally never be allowed, but DC Judge Chutkan will, of course, allow it while keeping a gag order on Trump so he can’t respond. This will drop this week for maximum election interference, which is all that these Trump prosecutions have ever been about.
And in case you’ve bought the horse manure about what a crack prosecutor Smith is, Kelly reminds us of his long history of bringing politically-motivated crackpot charges against prominent figures of both parties that get thrown out on appeal.

RIP, MERCURY MORRIS AND JIMMY GILMER

Eugene “Mercury” Morris died Saturday in Miami at 77 of undisclosed causes. The three-time Pro Bowl/two-time Super Bowl champion running back played for the Miami Dolphins from 1969 to 1975 and was key to their historic 1972 undefeated season.
It was also reported that earlier this month, singer Jimmy Gilmer died in Amarillo, Texas, a week short of his 84th birthday, after a two-year struggle with Alzheimer’s.

Jimmy Gilmer and the Fireballs scored a #1 hit in 1963 with the song “Sugar Shack.” It scored a gold record and was named the Top Song of 1963, based on record sales. They also had a couple of follow-up top 20 hits, “Daisy Petal Pickin’” and “Bottle of Wine.” Gilmer and the Fireballs recorded with Buddy Holly’s former producer Norman Petty in his studio in Clovis, New Mexico.
Gilmer continued performing up until fairly recently. His final performance was ironically on February 5, 2022, at the famous Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa, where Buddy Holly gave his final performance on February 2, 1959. RIP to them both.
Golf course gunman’s CIA connections are already coming to light
Yes, the would-be Trump assassin staking out the Trump International Golf Course in West Palm Beach must’ve been, as Foundation for Freedom Online founder Mike Benz describes him, “obviously something of a crazy person.” And that’s all the current administration would like us to think he is. But Benz, after conducting what he admits is “extremely preliminary research,” thinks he was also “some sort of subcontractor of a subcontractor,” part of an effort that started in 2014 to bring fighters --- essentially terrorists, ISIS fighters --- from Pakistan to the Ukraine, to help them retake the Crimean region in the eastern part of the Ukraine.
“The idea that this person was just a humble construction worker from North Carolina” is what the government would have us believe, Benz says. Instead, the man “was involved in the mass acquisition of passports of people from the most intense CIA conflict zones that we have,” Benz says. Though his social media has been scrubbed, Benz was able to archive hundreds of his Facebook posts entreating people to send him copies of their passports so he could arrange visas for them to go to Ukraine. This man gave them detailed instructions on how to do this, such as “DO NOT TALK TO YOUR LOCAL EMBASSY FIRST” [emphasis his] and, in some cases, telling them to fly to Poland and take a bus from there.
Benz cites information from whistleblower Michael Springman, who used to be chief of the visa division of the State Department’s Jeddah Consulate in Saudi Arabia and later wrote a book called VISAS FOR TERRORISTS describing this activity. Springman said everyone around him at Jeddah was “working for the CIA.” (Benz describes the CIA as “the underside of the State Department.”) Incidentally, at the time we’re discussing, the chief of station in Saudi Arabia was...drum roll, please...John Brennan (who just endorsed Kamala Harris for President.)
